Smelter City Senior Center open on Fridays again

Last Friday was the first one the Smelter City Senior Center at the Metcalf was open since the COVID-19 pandemic, a goal the center’s director Leigha Bates has held since she took the position more than a year ago. Bates said the opportunity to reopen on Fridays is solely due to the mill levies Anaconda-Deer Lodge County residents voted to approve earlier this year. “We needed the mill levies to become solvent again,” Bates said. “But one of my main goals, and the reason why I wrote that the way I did, was to reopen on Fridays and support the…

Small-town news, big deal

‘Too Much Information’ By Kasey Edge-Faur Anaconda Review Editor News in all its forms is important, but small-town news has always held a special place in my heart.  Whereas some aspiring journalists have aspirations of the New York Times or the Washington Post, my sights have always been set on smaller – but mighty – populations.  Being from a small town myself, I saw firsthand how important it was to my community to know what was happening inside it: the business openings, closures, birth announcements, obituaries and coverage on school events. The local newspaper was vital to myself and my…
