Read MoreTree Board resurrecting itself, more members wanted
For 32 years, Anaconda has been a Tree City USA, a designation granted by the Arbor Day Foundation. One of the conditions of being a Tree City USA is having a tree board. Up until a few years ago, ADLC met this condition. However, in recent years the ADLC Tree Board began facing hurdles that made it challenging to meet regularly and have a quorum. Now, the ADLC Tree Board is getting new life, with Sean Steinebach, the USDA service forester for Anaconda and a former tree board member, serving on the board as its designated forester. Joining Steinebach is…

The Oct. 6 meeting of the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commissioners was short and sweet but saw some important updates. First up, the preliminary plat for the Jones Creek Subdivision was approved following a report by ADLC planning director Carl Hamming about condition number four on the agreement, which is the requirement to tie into the West Valley sewer. At the Sept. 22 Commission meeting, Ken Jenkins of Montana Northwest Company asked the Commission for the reconsideration of condition 4, which would not allow the 20-acre lot to have on-site septic. Hamming said at that meeting that the reason for this…

Read MoreAnaconda Public Schools fully staffed with certified teachers, but enrollment is down
Anaconda School District has something to celebrate. After facing a shortage of certified teachers last year, Anaconda School District is now not only fully staffed but with certified teachers to boot. Last year, Anaconda Public Schools superintendent Tiffany Rehbein and the other APS administrative staff made a push to find more certified teachers. They did this through multiple avenues, including attending career fairs at colleges and conferences, getting involved in a new teacher apprenticeship program, and starting an in-school program for current high school students aspiring to be teachers. Now, it seems all that hard work has paid off. The…

Leonard and Frank Leonard, who owned and operated the first iteration of the Anaconda Weekly Review back in the 1880s-1890s, contacted us with the original photo of the Anaconda Review building at Park and Main streets when it stood alone at that corner. How times have changed.
Read MoreThree cheers for volunteers
‘Too Much Information’ By Kasey Edge-Faur Anaconda Review Editor When I interned for the Boulder Monitor in 2019, the town of Boulder was seeing a problem with its beloved town events getting smaller or petering out entirely because they were entirely volunteer-run, and many of the volunteers who had been sustaining them for years were getting older and becoming unable to continue working in the same capacity they had been. Meanwhile, younger generations were stepping up in smaller numbers than the ones before them, leaving an increasingly noticeable gap. During my time living in Anaconda, I’ve thought of that story…

New snow, new perspective
‘Too Much Information’ By Kasey Edge-Faur Anaconda Review Editor I’ve never been the biggest fan of snow. Give me rain, give me sunshine, but snow? No way. It’s freezing, it’s slippery and I’m clumsy so I always fall on it, and I never quite got the hang of winter sports like skiing and ice skating (although I am planning on trying those this year). This year, though, when I woke up Saturday morning to inches of fresh snow, I was giddy. Not for the potential downed power lines, not for hazardous road conditions, and definitely not because I was prepared…
