For some, this was their very first competition, while others carried previous experience. Montana Tech, University of Szeged researchers find invasive plants do more harm together
On an August day, west of Montana Technological University’s campus in Butte, a sea of white baby’s breath stretches across the landscape. The beautiful and delicate plant, an ornamental popular in flower arrangements and native to Eurasia, doesn’t look particularly menacing, but researchers say their impact on native grasslands they invade is anything but harmless. Student ideas spearhead the new Memorial Gym sign
By Evann Johnson AJSHS Student Reporter For years, the Memorial Gym has brought people together to watch Anaconda Junior/Senior High School athletes play their hardest, and everyone has been greeted with the same “Welcome to the Snake Pit” sign. Now, 19 years later, there has been a significant upgrade. Between vandalism and other damages, it was clear that the sign needed to be replaced. FMIS to pick new mascot, first step in elementary school rebranding
Something new is coming to Fred Moodry Intermediate School (FMIS), in addition to principal Holly Morris, who started this year. The school announced on Facebook earlier this month that it’s looking for a new mascot, which Morris said is the first step to rebranding the school to be more like an elementary school than a middle school. “I think the word intermediate throws a lot of people off,” Morris said. “Like Fred Moodry Intermediate, but grades 3 through 6 are elementary, so that’s the general overall purpose.” In the past, the FMIS building has been both a middle school and…

Montana Tech team helps bring historic sculpture back to life through 3D printing
A collaborative effort by Montana Technological University, Montana State University College of Art and Architecture and the Smithsonian American Art Museum is bringing a 3D-printed replica of a groundbreaking 19th-century sculpture, once nearly lost to history, to the Museum of the Rockies. Created in 1876 by Edmonia Lewis, one of the first Black and Native American women to achieve international recognition as a sculptor, The Death of Cleopatra depicts the Egyptian queen in the moments after her death. Montana Tech scholarship applications open October 15
Montana Technological University, the state’s STEM university, will open applications for many of its major scholarships on October 15. Students have until January 15 to apply for these scholarship opportunities. AJSHS Speech and Drama team starts the 2026-’27 season
By Evann Johnson AJSHS Student Reporter Anaconda Junior Senior High School held their first speech and drama practice on Thursday, Oct. 1, with the informational meeting taking place two days prior. Coached by Maggie Swanson and first-year coach at AJSHS, Joe Vermeire, the team starts the season strong with 15 total participants. After facing a shortage of certified teachers last year, Anaconda School District is now not only fully staffed but with certified teachers to boot. Last year, Anaconda Public Schools superintendent Tiffany Rehbein and the other APS administrative staff made a push to find more certified teachers. Tech Day gives prospective students a hands-on look at Montana Tech
As a high school senior in Livingston, Montana, Erika Haines had toured six college campuses. Nearly every one was the same, and she had decided she was bound for a top-ranked private liberal arts college out of state to major in education.
