Editorial Standards

The Anaconda Weekly Review is committed to accurate, fair and independent local journalism. These standards guide our reporting, editing and publication decisions.

Accuracy

Accuracy is our first responsibility. Reporters and editors should make reasonable efforts to verify names, dates, quotations, statistics, documents and other factual information before publication.

When information cannot be independently verified, we will make that clear to readers when appropriate.

Fairness and Context

We strive to provide readers with the context necessary to understand an issue fairly.

When a story contains significant criticism, allegations or disputes involving an identifiable person or organization, we will make a reasonable effort to give the affected party an opportunity to respond.

Fairness does not mean that every viewpoint is equally supported by the available facts.

Sources and Attribution

Information obtained from other publications, public records, organizations or individuals should be appropriately attributed.

Anonymous sources will be used sparingly and only when the information is important to the public, the source has credible knowledge of the subject and there is a legitimate reason the source cannot be identified publicly.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, donors and other financial supporters.

Advertising relationships, donations or sponsorships do not guarantee favorable coverage and do not prevent legitimate news coverage.

Sponsored, paid or promotional content will be clearly labeled.

News and Opinion

News reporting and opinion content should be clearly distinguishable.

Editorials, columns, commentary and letters to the editor will be identified as opinion when appropriate. Opinions expressed by individual contributors do not necessarily represent the views of the Anaconda Weekly Review or Anaconda Community Media Company.

Conflicts of Interest

Staff members and contributors should disclose significant personal, financial or organizational relationships that could reasonably create a conflict of interest in their reporting.

When a conflict cannot be avoided, the publication should disclose it to readers or assign the coverage to another journalist when practical.

Photographs and Media

Photographs should accurately represent the events or subjects being reported.

Images should not be manipulated in a way that materially misrepresents what occurred. Photo illustrations or substantially altered images should be identified when necessary to avoid misleading readers.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools may be used to assist with administrative, research, transcription, formatting, editing and other supporting tasks.

The Anaconda Weekly Review does not use artificial intelligence to write or generate articles for publication. Published journalism must be the work of a human reporter, editor or contributor, and AI tools are not a substitute for original reporting, source verification, interviews, fact-checking or editorial judgment.

When information, research or analysis obtained through an AI tool materially contributes to a published article, that use will be disclosed and cited appropriately so readers understand how the information was obtained. Information produced or identified through AI must be independently verified before publication.

All material intended for publication must be reviewed and approved by a responsible human editor or journalist before it is published.

The Anaconda Weekly Review remains fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness and integrity of everything it publishes, regardless of whether technology assisted in its production.
