Copperhead Cross Country saved their best for last, literally, as nearly every AHS runner at the State Cross-Country Championships – which took place at Amend Park in Billings on Oct. 24 – set personal-best times at the season’s final meet. The Anaconda Elks Lodge is sponsoring the 2026 Annual “Hoop Shoot” to be held at the Memorial Gymnasium at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Contestants who are ages 8-13 may compete in this free throw event. Trophies, medallions and Certificates of Participation will be awarded. The contestants are grouped by the following categories: Boys 8-9, Girls 8-9, Boys 10-11, Girls 10-11, Boys 12-13, Girls 12-13. The Lady Copperhead volleball team will wrap up the regular season with Senior Night on Thursday, Oct. 29 vs. Arlee, with JV set to play at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. The Lady Copperheads are coming off a 3-0 road sweep of Darby on Oct. 24 and stand firmly in second place in District 6B with a conference record of 7-2. Copperhead Cross Country wrapped up the regular season with strong finishes at a pair of meets last week ahead of the Western B/C Invitational that’s just hours away from the starting gun. First was the Hatchery Run at Arlee on Tuesday, Oct. 6, where Anaconda was led by senior Jayda Cornelius, whose fourth-place finish for girls’ varsity was the highest of any Copperhead on the day. The Lady Copperhead volleyball team took a breather from their heated late-season conference schedule to join many of the top Class A programs in the state for Butte Central’s annual Blocktoberfest Classic at the Butte Civic Center and the Maroon Activities Center on Oct. 9-10. Anaconda had a strong showing, particularly in pool play on Friday, defeating Billings Central, Libby, Beaverhead County and Custer County in single-set matches while falling to Park County, Columbia Falls and their district rival, Florence-Carlton.
