Fred Moodry Intermediate School principal Holly Morris’s back-to-school letter to the community

Dear Fred Moodry Intermediate Students, Families, and Community,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I welcome you to a new school year at Fred Moodry Intermediate School! It is an incredible honor to have the opportunity to serve as the principal of this school and to become part of a community that cares deeply about its children, its schools, and its future.

As I begin this new role, one thing is already very clear to me: Fred Moodry Intermediate has a lot to be proud of. I have been fortunate to work alongside many members of our staff, and I have already seen the dedication, compassion, and commitment they bring to their work each day. Our teachers and staff care about children—not only about their academic success, but about who they are becoming as people. I am excited to build on that foundation and to work alongside our staff, students, and families to make this a wonderful year.

My vision for FMIS is simple: every student should feel safe, known, valued, and challenged to grow. We will work hard to create a school culture where students know that they belong, where they are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and behavior, and where high expectations are paired with the support they need to meet them.

I believe strongly that schools and families are partners in a child’s education. We cannot do this work as well as we could if we worked separately. I want our families to know that your voice matters. I welcome your questions, your ideas, and your concerns. If you ever feel that your child needs additional support or that there is something we should be aware of, I encourage you to reach out. My hope is that we can be proactive, communicate openly, and work together to do what is best for each child.

This year, I also want our students to understand that they have an important role in creating the kind of school they want to attend. We will continue to build on the HISS expectations of being Honorable, showing Integrity, Staying Safe, and Staying Responsible. These are more than rules to follow—they are characteristics that help us become the kind of students, friends, coworkers, and community members we want to be.

Thank you for trusting us with your children. Thank you for supporting our teachers and staff. And thank you for being part of the Fred Moodry Intermediate community. I am genuinely excited about what this year holds, and I cannot wait to see our hallways filled with students again. It is going to be a great year at FMIS!

With gratitude and excitement,

Holly Morris
